New Microsoft role to help Charteris users cut data centre costs

Microsoft has appointed business and IT consultancy Charteris as its second virtualisation practice partner.
The appointment is good news for the company’s clients, who will now be able to take easier advantage of virtualisation (running multiple virtual servers from few physical servers), which many see as one of the greatest opportunities for improving responsiveness and cutting cost.
Microsoft Virtual Server is Microsoft’s virtualisation platform. Microsoft partners enjoy high levels of support in architecture and design, as well as in delivery of server virtualisation projects, through the company’s Global Solutions Technical Team (GSTT).
Steve Black, head of advanced infrastructure consulting at Charteris, describes the appointment as “a fantastic opportunity to be at the leading-edge of Microsoft’s developments in this rapidly advancing technology.”
And he adds: “Microsoft’s Virtual Server enables us to provide services that achieve a variety of technical strategies including server consolidation, ensuring business continuity, and improving disaster recovery, so as we drive down costs we can drive up reliability and security.’
