Rockwell partners with OSIsoft for SCADA historian development 31/10/2006

Rockwell Automation has agreed a partnership deal with SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) systems vendor OSIsoft to license and deliver OSIsoft PI software within its FactoryTalk production performance management suite.

OSIsoft technology helps manufacturers gain insight into plant floor production operations by collecting control system data, and providing data analysis and reporting capabilities. Users generally report quality and productivity improvements by identifying and reducing the causes of process variability, while also lowering costs of manual operations around collecting data.

Rockwell wants to create a tiered, distributed process historian strategy to provide manufacturers that with that insight but from embedded high-speed sensors and controls in everything from machines and work cells to entire factories.

“This alliance significantly accelerates the depth and breadth of our historian-based offerings,” says Kevin Roach, vice president of software, Rockwell Automation. “Combining the PI System with FactoryTalk services and connectivity to our Integrated Architecture, gives our customers access to world-class distributed historian capabilities that deliver seamless integration to Rockwell Automation control systems, as well as connectivity to third-party platforms.”
