Concrete Heads offer real world lean practice 05/09/2006

Another small lean consultancy, dubbed Concrete Heads (the term of endearment evidently reserved by Japanese aficionados of lean concepts for Westerners who fail to comprehend them) has been set up in the UK.

Leading with an impressive website (www.concreteheads.co.uk) – in terms with the scope of lean downloads available and the scale of its claims – Concrete Heads says it’s different because it’s staffed by people who know what they’re talking about.

Says managing director David Bovis, former European training development manager for Smiths Aerospace, Teleflex Morse and others: “I’ve been training management teams and developing companies in lean environments for the last 12 years.”

He lists achievements as rolling out 5S, running problem solving exercises, implementing lean systems, and also introducing ERP and PDM (product data management) systems for his employers.

“We’ve got four packages to bridge the enormous gaps in lean manufacturing understanding out there,” he says – claiming that even some of the big name lean consultancies are making serious mistakes.

“I was in a full time lean position and I saw consultants selling TQM and the rest of it just re-marketed, re-badged as lean. Everyone is getting fooled so I’ve set up the website to try and capture all my experience in a set of packages.”
