When launching a new product or ramping up production of new variants, we all need to get it right first time – and that doesn’t just mean product quality, but achieving the desired throughput at the appropriate cost. Thus it was at the Land Systems division of BAE Systems: about to embark on a manufacturing programme for its worldbeating ‘insensitive munitions’, it turned to simulation before making an investment in production facilities
