Intellution joins Emerson’s new process sector group 11/06/2001

Production automation and monitoring and control packaged software developer Intellution has become a division of Emerson Process Management (EPM), created by parent Emerson last month to focus the activities of its disparate process sector companies around the world.

It means that Intellution joins system integrator Performance Solutions, as well as automatic control valve manufacturer Fisher Controls, plant instrumentation maker Rosemount, control systems builders Fisher-Rosemount Systems (for the process sector) and Westinghouse (in power), as well as flow meter developer Micro Motion, some of which have already changed name.

EPM is headed by long timer John Berra, executive vice president of Emerson, to whom Bob Yeager, Intellution’s new president, reports. Says Yeager: “We serve a diverse array of clientele in an equally divers array of vertical markets. As a member of EPM, we’ll build on our strong relationship with these customers and enhance our value by providing an entrée into the full spectrum of products and services available from fellow EPM companies.”

Behind the words and the name little changes immediately: the companies had been working together where it suited for some time. However, there’s no denying the power of a new focus and a top level driven directive.

Alastair Norman, Intellution’s global key account manager, says the key is focusing on letting the world know that EPM is in the business of delivering total solutions. “Intellution was seen as delivering off the shelf shrink wrapped software. Now we can offer much broader solutions with components from the other divisions.”

And he says that over the next few months, key accounts will be able to get everything from a single point of contact within EPM.
