Raytheon places significant order with PTC for global standard system 01/02/2010

manufacturing business PLM system Aerospace and defence giant Raytheon says it is standardising on PTC's Windchill PLM (product lifecycle management) software for its global product development management strategy.

The company says it has placed "a significant order" for Windchill to replace its existing enterprise product data management system.

The plan, says the firm, it to create a common world-wide collaborative environment for product design, development and production in support of its 'design anywhere, build anywhere, support anywhere' business initiative.

It expects the new single enterprise-wide PLM backbone to enable Raytheon to "more effectively harness the power of its world-wide organisation in order to quickly deliver critical new products to the market".

Behind the claims will be an initiative to standardise common product development processes, such as change and configuration management. Other changes will include streamlining product data and workflows, and enabling immediate access to product information across the organisation.
