Research suggests outsourcing set for a boost this year 15/01/2010

manufacturing outsource ERP system Research commissioned by IT and business process outsourcing services firm Patni Computer Systems suggests that increased confidence in outsourcing will lead to greater use of outsourced IT services in 2010.

The third instalment of the Patni Pulse research among UK IT directors shows a 10% increase in those leaders who report increased confidence in outsourcing. Fully four out of five directors feel that, even amidst recession, outsourcing still delivers financial value.

The research, repeated in March, June and December, charts a slight but significant increase in an expectation that outsourced IT services will rise – from 40% in March to 48% in December.

Access to skills remains the main driver. However, the level of service received from outsourcing providers is another key factor, cited by 54% of respondents.

Jeremy Mackinlay, marketing director at Patni, explains: "As the recession hit, many industry watchers wondered if outsourcing could find a role as businesses reduced costs or innovated their way out of the tougher economic climate. The good news is that outsourcing has clearly delivered value and looks set for continued growth in 2010."
