BT’s VPN network set to improve productivity and resilience 02/11/2009

manufacturing business network VPN Hybrid VPN is BT's unimaginative name for a secure managed solution that enables users to access their corporate VPN via the public Internet.

Neil Sutton, vice-president of BTGS global portfolio, says it's aimed at large organisations to improve operational efficiency by "extending the reach of business processes and applications to employees based in locations previously considered too remote or expensive for a secure VPN".

He makes the point that, because it uses the Internet, Hybrid VPN can be deployed rapidly across the globe. It can also be used as a back-up, providing resilience should a site's primary access service fail.

"One of the greatest hallmarks of this product is that it simplifies network connectivity for companies aiming for rapid deployment of their infrastructure globally," says Sutton.

For example, for manufacturers managing their own VPN access in multiple countries, switching to Hybrid VPN could reduce the number of contracts they need to manage with national ISPs, each with its own service levels, incidence handling and reporting practices.

And he adds: "Hybrid VPN offers operational efficiencies to customers to extend company applications to smaller and remote offices without the investment needed for 'do-it-yourself' solutions'."

Hybrid VPN runs on BT's next-generation, software-driven 21CN global IP network.
