Oracle and Omron to deliver new environmental sustainability solution

Oracle and automation giant Omron are collaborating to develop a new solution designed to track energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions in manufacturing facilities.Based a combination of Omron's sensors and Oracle Manufacturing Operations Centre, the new application is being designed to merge real-time energy consumption data collected by Omron sensors (and other types of energy meters) with production data collected from shopfloor control systems.
Omron says it will also deliver an environmental data repository that can be harnessed as a certifiable information source for carbon accounting and greenhouse gas reporting, as well as energy management initiatives.
Omron, which has been an Oracle applications and technology user for some time, says it plans to implement the new solution at an initial site with an eye toward deploying it throughout its global factories and offices.
"Like many environmentally conscientious companies today, we want to do more than just monitor our energy consumption and emissions – we want to dramatically reduce them," says Masaki Teshigahara, senior general manager of Omron's Environmental Solutions Business.
"We look forward to finally achieving that goal once we've implemented this new application from Oracle,"he adds. "With the combination of Omron's technology, our know-how in reducing energy usage, and this new green solution, we expect to save more than 10% of our annualised energy bills."
