Norton Motorcycles revs up with PTC engineering solutions 28/07/2009

engineering business software system Stuart Garner, the UK-based owner of Norton Racing – who bought back the Norton, Manx, Atlas, Commando and Dominator brands – has selected PTC's Product Development System (PDS) from INNEO.

Norton Racing is already developing a new rotary-engined race bike and plans are emerging for a new road bike for this year.

"This has been a challenging and exciting period for us," says Garner. "We are proud to have brought the brands back home and we now intend to focus on re-establishing Norton Motorcycles as a premier brand across the world."

Part of that is about engineering, he says. "We needed to make some key technology decisions to support our design operations. It was obvious that we needed to partner with a solutions provider that could support our current and on-going needs with best-in-class technology that was scalable."

Hence PTC and partner INNEO. "INNEO's professional and friendly approach helped to make that decision very easy," says Garner. "Their proposal of PTC's PDS exactly matched our criteria and enables Norton to add further solutions, such as manufacturing as and when required."

And he adds: "With scalability in mind, Norton Motorcycles has initially implemented Pro/Engineer Wildfire 4.0 with INNEO's Startup TOOLS technology. We are currently reviewing PTC's Windchill Solutions with the intention to implement in the coming months."
