Wittur lifts engineering design standards on SolidWorks 24/06/2009

manufacturing engineering business software Elevator components manufacturer Wittur Group says that standardising on SolidWorks Enterprise PDM will improve global design team working.

The company, which has now installed 550 SolidWorks PDM licenses, expects to use the software primarily to transform document and workflow management around its complex range of doors, safety components, gearless drives, cars and hydraulic drives.

Advantages, it says will include: unifying and organising its global offices to achieve transparency of operations; optimising development processes; and improving security and efficiency of data management through its consolidated database.

Reinhard Böhm, global project manager PDM at Wittur, explains that the firm has been designing with SolidWorks CAD sofware for several years, but had been using three different PDM/PLM systems to manage its design database.

"Our relationship with SolidWorks, the software's user-friendly interface, low operational costs and potential to save time and money were the deciding factors," says Böhm.

"By standardising on SolidWorks, we can establish a continuously efficient product data management system, which serves the entire development process," he adds.

Böhm also explains that Wittur plans to connect SolidWorks Enterprise PDM to its existing CAD, Microsoft Office and ERP solutions, and set up BoM (bill of materials) management, company-wide.

"The switch should increase the productivity of our existing CAD tools, as well as providing an integrated platform for optimised product development," he says. "By creating a standardised document archive and a close network of our international sites, we expect to significantly improve collaboration with customers and suppliers."
