World’s first live transatlantic interactive hologram broadcast 22/06/2009

manufacturing business telepresence Live, interactive 3D holograms were transmitted for the first time last week between London, Dallas and Montreal.

Musion, which licences the Eyeliner telepresence system, successfully demonstrated the world's fastest high definition (HD) video public broadcast system at the InfoComm09 show in Orlando, Florida.

Musion Systems is the holographic screen projection company behind the virtual images of Sir Richard Branson, cartoon band Gorillaz, Madonna, Al Gore and HRH Prince Charles.

The demonstration involved a live broadcast of a 3D hologram, with what was described as a "full rock 'n' roll display stage measuring 20 feet wide and 15 feet high".

"Previously a sci-fi technology limited to Star Trek and Star Wars, 3-D holograms are now a reality and can be used as a tool for live, interactive meetings between speakers and their audiences based in different locations," comments James Rock, director of Musion.

Impressively, speakers, appearing as 3D holograms, are able to see, view and interact with their remote audience, making this a powerful tool for trade show and retail displays, keynote speeches, visitor attractions, lecturers, courtroom witnesses, musicians, but also business conference calls.

Last week's show included the first ever transatlantic busk, where professional and student artists in London and Montreal performed music, song, comedy and dance, live to the audience in Orlando.

Technology support was provided by Masergy, Christie Illusio Technologies, AV Concepts and HaiVision.
