Manufacturers can cut costs and go green, says K3 19/06/2009

manufacturing scrap business software ERP Manchester-based K3 Business Technology Group says it is helping manufacturers become more eco-friendly while saving money.

The company is releasing Material Yield, a module for use with its Syspro ERP system that is already helping US manufacturers save thousands of pounds while slashing landfill problems.

K3 managing director Howard Joseph explains that Material Yield automatically calculates yields from raw material using the live dimensional requirements for specific products.

He says this precision approach enables usage of materials, such as sheets, rods or tubes, to be better optimised, so saving money and reducing waste. Usable remnants, for example, are returned to inventory for later use, instead of being scrapped.

Interestingly, the system automatically creates new part numbers and pricing for the returned remnants, enabling custom orders to be fulfilled from the effectively renewed existing inventory.

Joseph says that one US company has more than doubled its revenues while maintaining head count, since implementing the system, because of the efficiencies.

"Calculating and deciding on how to make efficient use of raw and remnant material stocks has always been a time consuming process," he observes.

"With the Syspro Material Yield module we are able to provide a tool that automates the process, thereby adding value to existing raw materials and remnants – and also eradicating the need to send waste to landfill."
