Merck has agreed to sell the assets of Rosetta Biosoftware to Microsoft, enabling the software giant to ramp up its life sciences offerings. Microsoft says it will now incorporate full genetic data management into the Microsoft Amalga Life Sciences platform, launched in April, while also establishing a strategic relationship with Merck to meet emerging pharmaceutical research needs.
Under the terms of the agreement, Merck becomes a Microsoft Amalga Life Sciences 2009 platform user and provides strategic input to Microsoft on IT solutions incorporating Rosetta Biosoftware technologies.
Says Rupert Vessey, vice president, Merck Research Laboratories: "This agreement establishes a stable and sustainable platform for the Rosetta Biosoftware technology. In addition, we look forward to collaborating with Microsoft to develop new bioinformatic solutions to enable and expedite drug discovery and development.
