Cognos is weapon of choice for Chemring Defence 28/05/2009

manufacturing business intelligence system Global defence equipment manufacturer Chemring says that using IBM's Cognos business intelligence software is saving it 20% of monthly reporting time.

Chemring Defence finance director Ben James says that Cognos Controller, which has been running for the last 12 months, provides reliable and accurate date and analysis for the growing group, and that he anticipates further savings as data files are streamlined.

Next up will be Cognos Planning, which he expects to help with budget planning, ensuring greater accuracy and better opportunities for 'what if' modelling and forecasting.

"The new system will increase transparency across all global teams," says James. "They'll be able to see where we are against objectives on an ongoing basis, and they'll be able to enter data in their own business language.

"The excessive number-crunching will reduce. Plus, the time spent on administrative tasks will be cut dramatically. This will allow skilled staff to spend more time on strategic business planning, rather than number-crunching. In the current economic climate it's more important than ever to boost productivity and lower costs."
