Alps Electric sees significant savings since Spidex software 17/04/2009

Manufacturing business software Alps Electric (Ireland) reports significant efficiency improvements in engineering maintenance since installing Mainsaver CMMS from Spidex Software.

Alps, which supplies automotive electronics to the world's motor manufacturers from its plant in Millstreet, Co Cork, runs Mainsaver version 10.2 alongside the complementary web-based modules Spidex WMM and Spidex BI.

"Before we introduced Mainsaver, our day-to-day maintenance activities were generating large quantities of paperwork and the objective was to remove as much of that as possible," says maintenance supervisor Michal Ostrykiewicz.

"Our two biggest sources of paper were preventative maintenance job sheets and purchase requisitions, so that's where we started," he adds, stating that maintenance typically printed 500 job sheets per week.

"Much of the information I needed was completely out of date by the time it reached me" says Ostrykiewicz. "I would sometimes have to wait until Wednesday to find out how many jobs had been completed and added in the previous week." And he adds that the problem was compounded when spare parts had to be ordered, with invoice keying into its legacy systems.

Says Ostrykiewicz: "Since we installed Mainsaver, we are fully in control of these processes. We are now able to plan our preventative maintenance jobs with the required spares and can rely on the accuracy of the on-hand quantities shown in the system. We have also saved a great deal of time and paper because we no longer have to double-enter purchase requisition data."
