Sellafield predicts £3 million annual savings from Lawson BI

Sellafield, the UK Nuclear Services company, says it expects to save £3 million per annum when it goes live with Lawson business intelligence software. Richard Davison, site maintenance systems manager at Sellafield, says the savings will come from improved employee productivity, in turn due to removing manual intervention from many of its maintenance and asset management processes.
He also cites improved parts ordering and reduced time to complete repairs or place one-off orders. This coupled with its 2005 implementation of Lawson's M3 EAM (enterprise asset management) solution will, he says, help ensure that the company stays ahead of the nuclear industry's renowned preventative maintenance regulations.
"The nuclear industry is a long-term game, with long-term site plans requiring a maintenance management strategy for 150 years or more," says Davison.
"That's why we selected Lawson for our original EAM roll-out and they were the obvious partner for us to implement business intelligence and add to existing functionality," he explains.
"We have recently installed Lawson M3 Technology 7.1, which will enable us to upgrade our hardware platforms and provide a system sized for future growth. The project was crucial because we relied on legacy systems for some of its core business processes.
"These will no longer be used once the interfaces between Lawson and the other applications are in place. In addition, we will be using Lawson Learning Accelerator to improve adoption of Lawson applications and help customers gain the most from their EAM investment," he concludes.
