Flint Group packs Unicode and SAP update into single project 30/09/2008

manufacturing business software Printing and packaging industry manufacturer Flint Group has brought its European SAP system up to date, while also migrating its data to Unicode, using BASF IT Services.

Heinz Ensen, CIO at Flint Group Europe, makes the point that the organisation can now represent character sets used with any of the world’s languages – enabling documentation and transactions to be instantly translated for display.

“We are very satisfied with the results. It was our objective to carry out the release change and the Unicode migration in a single step,” says Ensen. “The close cooperation with BASF IT Services and their expert knowledge were of great value to us. This let us avoid a second period of system downtime, saving us time and money.”

BASF IT Services worked with Flint’s project team for nine months during preparation and testing for the changeover. Ensen says that more than 1,000 SAP users in finance, logistics, materials management and production control were able to use the system after only a single weekend.
