Corus Strip Llanwern plant reports significant gains from scheduler 29/08/2008

manufacturing business software Since going live with Broner Metals Solutions’ production scheduler software, Corus Strip Products says it has seen significant improvements – with feeder group alternative materials preventing 50% of schedule violations.

Shirley Solomon, project executive at Corus’ Llanwern plant, says the company has successfully completed Phase One enhancements on its scheduler, taking opportunities identified during the original implementation.

She cites key new functionality as: the feeder groups; rules-based minimum batching, with limits defined by characteristics; violation limits; and improved scheduling information around specific areas of production.

Phase Two of the production scheduler enhancement project will go live shortly, she says – adding that the expectation then is for better scheduling information, particularly around coils scheduling.

She also cites ‘conserve and consume’ functionality, which allows users to define a scheduling strategy for material in short supply and needed for more than one position in the schedule.

Solomon says that the systems is already helping the Llanwern plant to generate more automated and accurate schedules, with a reduced amount of editing, which removes the potential for errors and inconsistencies.
