Manufacturing business systems conglomerate Infor has launched a new version of its supply chain modelling software, with functionality to balance carbon emissions, costs and customer service goals.
SCM Network Design is already used by manufacturers, distributors, transporters and retailers, but Infor says that rising supply chain costs and green concerns warranted the new capabilities for network modelling.
So the software now incorporates sustainability criteria, enabling companies to factor in carbon emissions related to plants, warehouses, stores and the full range of transport modes on their networks, using ‘what if’ modelling.
John Pulling, senior director of supply chain management at Infor, says that enables manufacturers to take steps to green their supply chains, by first calculating the carbon emissions generated from their supply networks and then fine-tune them to lower emissions while enhancing customer servuce.
“Supply chains can become out of tune due to factors like mergers and acquisitions and fluctuating fuel costs,” he says. “Infor SCM Network Design helps companies continually evaluate their networks so they can implement and maintain more cost and carbon efficient supply chains.”
