LHC Computing grid set to go live with October grid fest 20/08/2008

LHC Computing Grid computer centres around the world will open their doors on 3 October 2008, for the LHC Grid Fest, a full-day event celebrating its successes and challenges.

The LHC Computing Grid combines the IT power of more than 140 computer centres in 33 countries, enabling thousands of scientists worldwide to discover new physics as they translate raw data into new insights.

The grid is now charged with managing more than 15 million Gigabytes of data every year, produced from the hundreds of millions of subatomic collisions expected inside the Large Hadron Collider every second.

Connected data centres are in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, China, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, India, Israel, Japan, Republic of Korea, the Netherlands, the Nordic countries, Pakistan, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taipei, Turkey, the UK, Ukraine, and the US.
