BT to supply network and IT infrastructure to Fiat Germany 23/07/2008

BT has signed a contract with Fiat Group in Germany to equip its new HQ in Frankfurt’s so-called Auto Mile with telecommunications and networking technology.

The building, which will also act as a showroom for Fiat, Alfa Romeo and Lancia cars, is to be equipped with a LAN, with VoIP (vloice over IP) via a Siemens HiPath 8000 IP phone exchange, and wireless network access (WiFi).

Stefan Hischer, managing director sales of BT Germany, says that the project also includes connection to the MPLS WAN that BT already operates for Fiat, Internet access including firewall, and a high-speed link to the BT data centre in Frankfurt where the IP PBX and firewall are hosted.

“It is a great opportunity to equip brand-new corporate headquarters with advanced network and IT solutions from the very beginning,” he says. “This allows us to contribute to the concept from the start and, for example, benefit from the synergies from the use of IP telephony.”
