Manufacturing SMEs get low cost internet security appliances 15/05/2008

Manufacturing SMEs wanting to beef up their Internet protection, in the wake of increasing attacks and growing demand for supply chain collaboration, should consider new UTM appliances and managed services.

So says IBM Internet Security Systems, which has just launched extensions to its Express Advantage portfolio to deliver lower cost, easy install, simplified solutions for SMEs all the way from network security – with a bundled unified threat management appliance – to server side protection, with optional remote management.

Peter Stremus, Big Blue’s business lines and sector leader for EMEA in its Internet Security Systems business unit, says there are seven new offerings, starting at its entry level UTM appliance for up to 100 users – providing firewall, intruder detection, AV etc – costing eur 1,200 and optional managed services at eur 250 per month.

The rest of the range covers server protection, again with optional service provision, mail security in the cloud with MessageLabs and associated network compliance services.

“We’re also offering Express Advantage security at the enterprise level, with Crossbeam Systems: full professional Internet security, including intrusion prevention at 10Gb – effectively a high end, ultra low latency UTM,” says Stremus.
