Spirax Sarco goes for global Cognos BI roll-out 14/05/2008

manufacturing business software Steam controls manufacturer Spirax Sarco says it expects to benefit from centralised sales and accounting information, while local users retain control of queries and reports, when it goes live with IBM Cognos Performance Applications.

Derick Brazier, Spirax Sarco group IT manager, explains that all 36 global companies will keep their autonomy to generate local sales, manufacturing, accounting and finance reports, but will be able to do so far more quickly and accurately, harnessing centralised data without central IT support.

“Previously, reporting at a local level was disparate and too removed from group needs,” says Brazier. “To bring this into a more centralised environment we needed to invest in new staff at a group level who could communicate across several different languages and would not create a bottleneck.”

Spirax Sarco also needed to integrate business intelligence with its Oracle JDEdwards EnterpriseOne ERP system. Cognos partner Triangle Information Management is currently rolling out the solution.

“Integrating silos of information and reporting approaches from 36 countries is complex,” agrees Chris Lewis, director at Triangle. “We worked with Spirax to ensure Performance Applications and Cognos 8 technology would meet its needs now and in the future as more companies are brought into the system.”
