IBM starts delivering security as a service to SMEs 29/04/2008

IBM says it has introduced several new IT security services to help mid-sized manufacturers better manage system risk and deal with alarming rise in organised crime attacks on SMEs.

According to IBM’s X-Force global security team, because mid-sized companies typically lack the IT resources needed to prepare for such attacks, they are increasingly finding themselves prime targets for network attacks, data breaches and other malicious threats.

IBM’s new services include: Express Penetration Testing Services, Express Multi-Function Security Bundle and Express Managed Protection Services for Server.

“With our business partners, we are prepared to help companies of all sizes better manage risk and sleep better at night,” says Rick Ruiz, general manager, general business in IBM Global Technology Services. “Quite simply, I don’t believe there is any company in the world that can match IBM’s ability to help provide clients with pre-emptive, affordable, end-to-end protection that stops threats before they impact their business. This is about safety, security, and peace of mind.”

Express Penetration Testing Services, he says, are about uncovering an organisation’s vulnerabilities by simulating a real network attack and mimicking the techniques used by malicious attackers. Then Express Multi-Function Security Bundle is a new service that provides do-it-yourself protection against network threats, vulnerabilities, worms, viruses, spy-ware and spam in a single unified threat management solution.

Express Managed Multi-Function Security Bundle is the same but for users that prefer a fully-managed multi-function security solution – with IBM delivering a suite of products that provide 24/7 protection and monitoring, and supporting an array of security services, such as firewall, VPN, behavioural and signature antivirus, intrusion prevention security, anti-spam and web filtering.

Finally, IBM says that Express Managed Protection Services for Server are affordable services that help provide 24/7 protection for servers from a broad array of threats, as well as monitoring and management services.
