Next generation workforce mobility IT due soon 01/07/2002

New mobile workforce IT systems are likely to be the fruit of an agreement, just signed, between virtual terminal software firm Citrix and Symbol, the bar code scanners, mobile computers and wireless LAN systems firm.

The two say they will be developing systems that provide virtual access to any application or information from any location using Symbol devices. They will be based on an integration between Citrix MetaFrame XP and Symbol’s wireless PocketPC devices.

“In order to maintain a competitive advantage in an increasingly mobile world, customers need solutions that allow them to cost-effectively boost their productivity,” says Stephen Drake, senior consultant at analyst IDC. “The relationship between Citrix and Symbol [will] give joint customers the ability to optimise their application access and get more out of their IT investments.”
