Enterprise search costs nothing at all 11/03/2008

You can now get a free tool to search data inside Microsoft Office, Adobe and web documents – including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Acrobat, HTML, RTF and plain text documents.

Flax Basic enterprise search solution – the stripped down version of Flax advanced enterprise and site search engine – is now being offered for download by Cambridge-based Lemur Consulting.

Lemur says that Flax Basic will meet the search requirements of many manufacturing organisations – including those requiring more complex search functionality.

Charlie Hull, Lemur’s managing director, says that behind the simple interface is an engine able to conduct complex multi-term searches rapidly. He also claims it’s one of the fastest such systems available.

“This product really illustrates what we’ve been saying for quite some time,” says Hull. “The proliferation of data in modern businesses means that simple search programs are essential… Many companies do not realise that their information could work much harder for them. Flax’s powerful features help them get at the information they need quickly.”
