SOA and Web 2.0 come to Epicor ERP backbone 28/02/2008

Epicor Internet Component Environment (ICE) 2.0 – the company’s service-oriented architecture (SOA) offering – was launched yesterday at Microsoft’s ‘Heroes happen here’ event.

Based on proven web services technologies such as Microsoft .Net Framework and running with Microsoft Windows Server 2008, SQL Server 2008, and Visual Studio 2008, it will help manufacturers “to reduce costs, increase hardware utilisation, optimise infrastructure and server availability, and drive unprecedented user productivity,” according to the company.

Epicor ICE 2.0 – currently scheduled for release in Q2 2008 – will be the backbone of its next generation ERP, founded on delivering “an adaptable framework for creating dynamic applications delivered via rich user experiences”.

“Today, our customers face a growing need for real-time collaboration inside and outside the organisation, and increasingly across globally-distributed operations,” says James Norwood, vice president of product marketing for Epicor.

“This, coupled with the opportunities that come from successful continuous performance initiatives, is driving a demand for leaner, greener, flexible solutions delivered more cost-effectively. Epicor is innovating in the areas of Enterprise and Web 2.0, investing in enterprise search, presence and business mash-up scenarios, as well as cost efficient deployment options.

“This investment will help our customers gain immediate benefits through easier access to information, increased user productivity and overall business performance.”
