Telepresence set to take off very fast 18/02/2008

Analyst Frost & Sullivan believes that the telepresence industry will grow from £74 million in 2007 to a staggering £0.7 billion worldwide by 2013 – an increase of about 850%.

The organisation released its prediction for the converged mobile environment ahead of the Telepresence World 2008 conference in London on 18 and 19 March at the ExCel Exhibition and Conference Centre.

According to senior industry analyst and programme manager of conferencing & collaboration, ICT Europe Dominic Dodd, buyers find that, despite higher costs, telepresence systems quickly pay for themselves by cutting travel expenses and reducing executive ‘wear and tear’.

“While video conferencing is now widely regarded as just another communications technology,” he says, “the in-built service capability that defines and differentiates telepresence seems to be creating a new-found enthusiasm among key decision-makers.”
