Epicor extends automated barcode capabilities with pre-configured ERP 08/10/2007

ERP software developer Epicor has launched a pre-integrated inventory control and management system with barcode capabilities for the iScala suite.

Dubbed iScala Collect, it is aimed at simplifying inventory tracking, picking and packing, according to the company – enabling more mobile warehouse workers. It will also remove the risk of data entry error and speed up data capture.

Epicor says that the new capabilities go beyond basic data collection and entry, “extending functionally into almost every area of warehouse management to create a truly automated environment”. Specifically, it cites expanded capabilities in zone- and task-directed activity, as well as license plate support and a range of inventory management operations.

“Creating a wire-free atmosphere in the warehouse worked well, but did not go far enough,” says Adam Prince, director, product marketing for Epicor. “With iScala Collect, warehouse employees can go from task to task without having to return to a home base to print or retrieve their next task. This enables the employee and the entire warehouse to operate at a higher level of efficiency – which in turn can drive greater efficiencies throughout the company.”

“Warehouse workers using handheld devices with remote access can be more productive when they are independent of the docked workstation, which we believe will continue to be the trend,” explains Gary Jones, vice president of global channel sales for Intermec. “We are working with Epicor to extend iScala’s current functionality by making these capabilities available today with devices that provide an unsurpassed level of interoperability and performance.”
