Online assessment tool helps users find out how they would cope in a crisis 28/09/2007

Business continuity and disaster recovery plans and systems can now be tested using an online assessment tool, developed by BSI British Standards, and sponsored by insurance broker Marsh.

Business Continuity Assessment Online uses 191 questions and multiple choice answers covering every aspect of the BS 25999-1 Business Continuity Management Code of Practice, to find out where organisations are doing well and what improvements should be made.

Mike Low, director of BSI British Standards, says that completing the online assessment will help manufacturers to develop a comprehensive understanding of the principles of business continuity management and the component parts of BS 25999-1.

“The tool will help organisations understand how to prepare a business continuity plan in a simple yet effective framework and will give added value to their businesses by enabling them to demonstrate improved risk management,” he says.

BS 25999-2 is due to be published later this year and independent assessment will be available after publication of part 2 of this standard.

Using the online tool, however, managers will be able to develop an appreciation of continuity planning and a better understanding of how to develop, implement and manage business continuity plans in advance of that event.
