Mega yacht designer goes for Catia engineered solution 27/09/2007

manufacturing engineering software Mega yacht designer Barbeito & Associates has chosen Catia design authoring software as its primary design platform, following a development project with Rand North America.

The company says its new solution streamlines design and manufacturing planning, and that Catia will consolidate functionality its engineers have been struggling to access over several legacy applications.

“We were wasting a lot of time going to one application for conceptual surface design, then another for the steel detailing, and another for the piping and equipment,” says Arthur Barbeito, company founder and president.

“The different systems also multiplied the time it took to modify a design because a change in one system had to be manually repeated in the others. With Catia, we have all of our essential functionality in one system. We expect Catia’s combination of advanced design functionality and scalability to make us more efficient by orders of magnitude.”

Barbeito & Associates specialises in custom 50—160 meter luxury yachts, and the company says it will use Catia for everything from hull design to steel structure design, piping and interior design. It also plans to use Delmia digital manufacturing simulation software for communicating production information with the shipyards that build to Barbeito’s designs.
