Web-based dynamic VMI cuts costs at medical mobility firm 26/07/2007

Medical mobility aids manufacturer Ulrich Alber says it is optimising replenishment, decreasing stock of inventory and cutting its own and its suppliers’ processing costs since going live on Infor SRM (supplier relationship management) SupplyWeb.

The company says its system helps it to visualise current stock of materials and has introduced dynamic vendor managed inventory. Alber says it’s now handling all communications with suppliers online, providing all parties with accurate, up-to-date information on inventory and demand.

Alber general manager Ralf Ledda explains that before inventory in stock hits a bottom threshold, the company and its suppliers are now notified by SupplyWeb. Management dashboards provide required information about supplies needed, ensuring availability of goods, while optimising inventory. Lower and upper inventory limits are automatically controlled, he says, helping to align inventory with changing market demands – so also decreasing warehousing cost.

“Choosing SupplyWeb was a smart move,” he insists. “We eliminated all costly manual processes in procurement and supplier relationship management, including order and delivery management as well as packing list, receipt and barcode label creation on the supplier side. With SupplyWeb, we laid the foundation for further process optimisation, for example introducing RFID-based identification of inventory.”
