Executives increasingly targeted by hackers, warns Innominate 13/07/2007

manufacturing business software Security vendor MessageLabs has released figures showing a 100% increase in malicious email to C-level executives and their families compared to the same period last year.

The analysis also showed that these messages tend to be very well researched, including the names and titles of the executives in the header. This tailored approach can easily trick even the most careful employee into opening files and becoming a ‘Trojaner’, warns manufacturing security systems developer Innominate.

“Hackers are getting more and more sophisticated and these figures just highlight the need for a structured approach to security that leaves no loopholes,” insists Dr Lutz Jaenicke, chief technical officer at Innominate.

“Everyone is a target, and with social networking sites, such as Facebook, more and more data is available for the well organised hacker. We recommend an integrated approach that not only takes into account the office network, but also the industrial network, which is often neglected in terms of security.”
